This playlist encompasses blood stirring beats and tunes from the best in South Asian and Middle Eastern music. We start off with Barbarian by Mona Haydar where she sings “This mind, decolonise” which should be the mandate of every activist, from there we listen to Iqbal Bano envision a world where the oppressive structures have been torn down. Then we segue into the role of women and every non man as they assert that their strength as women is what gets work done. Bol Hu will uplift you as 8 year old Haniya Hashmi belts out “Bana ley choti si duniya” emphasising that community is as important when you think that change will happen overnight. Akbar is a break from lyrics into an instrumental vibe that will motivate you with Dhaani and Laibo changing the overall mood to a playful one. And finally we conclude with San Ruk Janda where a woman raps asking her man that why is she making money and he is bringing nothing to their relationship reiterating that the personal is political.
