Sharjeel Imam is a computer science graduate from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and a scholar of Islamic history and Muslim politics in South Asia. A PhD candidate and student activist at Jawaharlal Nehru University, he was arrested by Delhi Police upon surrender in January 2020 in multiple cases following his protest speeches against India’s Citizenship Amendment Act. Denied bail ever since, his trial is yet to begin. His work, prior to his arrest and after, has appeared in several publications including TRT World, The Wire, Firstpost, The Quint, and Maktoob Media.
