Emergency: past is prologue – A conversation with V. Krishna Ananth

Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared the “Emergency” on 25 June 1975. It lasted for twenty-one months, from 1975 to 1977. This is often referred to as a “dark period” and “an aberration” in India’s recent history. Watch this three-part series with scholar and journalist V. Krishna Ananth, to understand the pre-history of the Emergency, the constant need to interrogate this period, the ways it remade the Indian republic, and what we can learn from the fractured media landscape.
